Five New York Favourites

I spent this past weekend in New York City--- had a blast and loved every second of it!! So I thought I would share some favourites in no particular order!! (Also I'm pretty sure I am missing about 88 things!!)

1) PIZZA
New York is home to some of the worlds finest pizza places and we made it our quest to eat as much of it as possible!! Apparently New York has the best tap water and somehow this also makes the best pizza-- I'm pretty sure that is bull!

.. but I'm not going to complain about the deliciousness!! Pizza is pretty much my favourite food and New York is the one place everyone will agree with me that we should eat as much pizza as possible!!

2) Art and Architecture
You don't have to be in one of the gazillion museums to be surrounded by beautiful things! I am obsessed with nice buildings-- specifically ones with columns! There are large sky scrapers, pieces of art on the streets and museums, the lights of Time Square are art in their own way. Even in the winter time, everything about New York is beautiful!!

I am saying this now but at the time when I was freezing my butt off because of the wind tunnels, I had other thoughts---- "Its freakin freezing here, who would live in this awful place!!" I am now ashamed of these words and I'm pretty sure not more than ten minutes later they were followed with: " I love it here, I want to move here!"
("Frailty, thy name is woman")

Okay so Jared and I went to the Time Warner Centre (basically a mall) and they had Salvadore Dali paintings and sculptures all over the MALL!! What kind of a mall substitutes as an art gallery?! It blew my mind!! I <3 NYC!!

3) Fashion
Although I really didn't do that much shopping--- my VISA (and my overflowing closet) thank me--- I have waaaay too much fun and excitement seeing New York stores.
Bergdorf's, Kate Spade New York, Topshop, Tiffany's, Fendi... the list goes on and on and on!!
Some of the stores were so good I felt like I wasn't good enough to even look in the windows but man oh man, not much gets my heart going like Fashion!!!

One night we went to Chinatown and I watched Jared get ridiculously excited about chop sticks and weapons and I thought... this is how I must look when I see 4 levels of Forever 21! I think we bonded over this ;)

4) Good Stuff on the Cheap
NYC can be a paradox because on one hand it has stores that sell purses for thousands of dollars when on the other hand you could take a cab to Canal St. and get the same thing for 40$ -- possibly cheaper if you're any good at bartering!!
Cheap jewellery, perfumes, purses, watches-- every where you go on Canal St. there is someone whispering to you about Rolexes, or coach purses OR there is someone in a store loudly beckoning to you to come in! My favourite find was a sweet pair of sunglasses that I saw at Ottawa Fashion Week for only $7 (and they were that expensive because I suck at bartering )
Even cab fares seemed really reasonable--- I sat up front for one of the trips and the cabbie told me about meeting Taye Diggs!! Made up my mind right then and there to move ;)

5) FAME
As Jared and I were walking around Times Square we joked about how huge your head would be if it was on a billboard on Time Square-- what we didn't realize was that would also include the size of your ego!!
Even if it was for only 15 seconds at a time, there is a huge adrenaline rush seeing yourself on a HUGE screen!! I felt like running around pointing and screaming "Thats Me! That's Me!!"

NYC-- "Concrete jungle where dreams are made of?" If your dreams include eating pizza until you burst, window shopping and realizing your degree can only get you a job shoveling snow off the streets in front of ritzy hotels-- then YES!! Maybe I'd get to see Taye Diggs?
